5 YA Books you NEED on your TBR

YA Book Lovers we've absolutely spoilt you this August & September!

Between August 27 to September 3, we’re releasing a fantastic lineup of FIVE new YA books – how awesome is that!? So, we figured we’d share with you a little bit about each of these 5 amazing titles that you should definitely pop straight onto the TBR!

The Heart of the World by Amie Kaufman

The sequel to Amie Kaufman’s stunning YA Fantasy solo debut, The Isles of the Gods, The Heart of the World promises to wrap everything up and no doubt leave us all a blubbering mess on the floor too (in true Amie Kaufman style). If you haven’t read The Isles of the Gods yet, first….

Gif of a scene from The Office where Kelly Kapoor says, "Yeah, I have a lot of questions. Number one: how dare you?"

Seriously, you need to get on that, stat! It’s everything you’d ever want in a YA book -adventure in a detailed fantasy world, a cool magic system, and absolutely A+ banter just to name a few aspects. The duology revolves around young sailor Selly, who dreams of being the captain of her own ship one day. But her dreams get pushed aside when she’s swept up into a dangerous quest with slumbering gods and a handsome prince who needs her help to save the world.

Sunderworld: Vol 1 – The Extraordinary Disappointments of Leopold Berry by Ransom Riggs

If the name Ransom Rigs sounds familiar, it’s because he is the brilliant mind behind the Miss Peregrine’s School for Peculiar Children series and now, he’s back with the first in his next amazing series. This story revolves around teenager Leopold Berry who, after rediscovering VHS tapes of a childhood TV series, begins seeing strange things around Los Angels. He soon discovers that the seemingly fictional world of Sunder is much more than just an old TV show, and not only is Sunderworld real, but it's in grave danger. This book has the perfect blend of 90s nostalgia, teen angst and Ransom Rigg’s trademark weaving of the familiar with the peculiar to make this book one hecc of a ride!

This stunning duology revolves around a group of girls called Nightbirds, women who have incredible magic that can be gifted to others with a kiss… and now, as they’ve discovered in Nightbirds, they can use themselves too. Can Matilde, Sayer, ᴁsa and (spoilers) new Nightbird Fen find each other again and save the day from the forces that are trying to keep their world stuck in the past…?

I’m Not Really Here by Gary Lonesborough

If YA contemporary is more your jam, we’ve got you covered too with I’m Not Really Here by the amazing Gary Lonesborough, author of The Boy from the Mish. In this YA coming-of-age story we follow Jonah, a young queer boy who moves to a new town and develops a crush on Harley, a cute boy who’s in the rugby team. So of course, Jonah joins the team too to get to know Harley more. But will sparks fly? After all, there’s no such thing as out of your league!

Songlight by Moira Buffini

Finishing up our YA quintet, this one is for all the YA dystopia fans! If you took The Hunger Games, A Handmaid’s Tale, and sprinkled in some magic, you’ve got Songlight by Moira Buffini! The story revolves around a future where people born with telepathic powers or “songlight” are rounded up and taken away, meanwhile there’s also just casually a war is going on too… in true dystopian fashion. We follow a variety of teenagers who are caught up in these events, some of whom who – through their powers – can communicate from many miles away. This multiple POV story has all the makings of one epic series, and we cannot wait for the following books in the Torch trilogy to see what happens next!
