Allen & Unwin are running an Illustrator Open Day for emerging or unpublished children’s book illustrators. Bring in your portfolio, have a chat with the team at Allen & Unwin and meet the people who make our bestselling children’s books.
We are offering this opportunity for children's book illustrators of all backgrounds and experiences to meet with our children’s publishers, editors and designers in our East Melbourne office. We invite you to bring in your portfolio to share with the team – while feedback will not necessarily be offered, you will get an opportunity to see inside a publishing house, meet the people who make the books, ask your burning questions, and get on our radar for future work.

What’s in a portfolio?
Your portfolio can be digital or physical. If digital, please also bring in your laptop or tablet.
Our picture books feature children, animals, and families of all shapes and sizes. They can be set in the real world or set in a fantasy landscape. We look for expressive faces and body language in characters. We look for warmth and emotion in families.
It’s always useful to see work in both colour and black and white.
Please bring in no more than twelve examples in total.
