Jude Duarte Costume Guide

If you want to dress up as everybody favourite mortal Fae Queen, then this is the guide you need!

Jude is an absolutely iconic character, and if you’d love to make a costume for her either just for fun or for an event, then we’ve got some tips to help make it happen! Remember, as there is no real official art for Jude, she can really look however you want!

The Outfit

There are 2 main Jude looks people tend to cosplay, either a ballroom look or an everyday look. Either way though, you can obviously either make the clothes yourself, or buy/thrift them. Cosplay is for every skill level!

Jude’s Ballroom Look

For this look, you’ll want to find or make yourself a gown. A lot of Elfhame fashion seems to be very reminiscent of late 1800's fashion, but with a more modern twist. So, look for mid to floor length gowns, with lots of shimmer. Jude is often seen in art wearing lots of blues and greens, (which works well with her hair) and golden ascent colours, (which again, compliments her hair and eye colour). So, look for long, draping gowns.

Accessories wise, gold would probably suit Jude’s features, but of course, if it doesn’t suit yours, silver or a colour that matches your gown works too. So, feel free to add bracelets, necklaces, nail polish or anything else that compliments the outfit here.

Shoes wise, depending on the length of gown you might not even see them. Some simple heels work, or even slightly more elegant flats. Alternatively, if your dress is a little shorter, adding some statement shoes that wrap up your leg like vines (or even a snake if you catch our drift) will definitely suit.

Jude’s Everyday Look

If gowns aren’t your jam, never fear, they aren’t really Jude’s either anyway! Her everyday look is a lot more casual, and more ready for a fight. The most common looks for this include a plain long sleeved white top, with tight leather pants and large boots. You could also add some straps for holding all sorts of weapons like swords and daggers to complete the look. Or even splatter some fake blood on your clothes to look fresh from a fight.

The Hair

The arguably most iconic part of Jude’s look. While she only really wears her famous hair horns once, it has become such a big part of her appearance that it would be difficult to do a Jude look without them. So, here are some tips for recreating the look yourself!

First, you will need a LOT of hair! So, if you don’t have a lot in the hair department, you can either look at getting some extensions, or get yourself a long brown wig. Once you’ve got enough hair, the first thing to do is section! Section two larger chunks of hair on either side of the very top of your head, and tie everything else away for now.

Next, you’ll need to form the horns. There are a number of ways you can do this, either by creating horn shapes using items like foam, wire, or even aluminum foil. Now, you’ll need to get them into your hair, specifically into the middle of that spot you sectioned out before. You can do this either by pinning the horns in with bobby pins, or clips. Or you can mount them into a headband using clips or glue, and simply slide that onto your head (if you do this option, just make sure to wrap some extra hair around the band so it’s not visible.)

Now that you have the shape of the horns, it’s time to add the hair! The horn should already be surrounded by hair, so split it into two sections, and get wrapping! We definitely recommend having a lot of bobby pins and hairspray on hand for this section, as getting the hair to stay put can be a bit of a battle. Wrap one lock of hair all the way up to the top and spray and pin it down as best as you can. Then, grab the second section of hair, and wrap it around too, using this one to cover over any bits the first one missed. If at this point you are still finding gaps that don’t cover the horns, that’s completely fine. You can try and adjust the hair on the horn just gently or wrap more hair from the section you tied off.

Once this is done, release the rest of the hair and add in any hair accessories you might have like chains or pretty pins just to add more to it. Or mess it up a little if you’re going for more of a post-battle Jude.

The Makeup

This will change a little depending on what look you’re going for, but overall, Jude doesn’t tend to wear a lot of heavy makeup either way. For her ball look, adding some extra shimmer to your eyes. False lashes and a bolder lip will elevate the look too if you're comfortable with it. Alternatively, for her everyday look, keeping things nice and natural would be more suited to Jude. For a battle-worn Jude, adding some cuts and bruises with eyeshadow and even some fake blood will just take it that bit further.

And then your Jude costume is done! Regardless of whether you made everything, bought everything, look just like the pictures, or have decided on a completely different take, we’re sure your Jude is perfect for you. And at its core that’s what cosplay is all about, you having fun and feeling comfortable in your look!
