We’re heading into the most exciting time of the year when all the must-read books start hitting the shelves. So, we’ve picked just a few of our favourites that we think you should put at the top of your list right now!   


By Any Other Name by Jodi Picoult

We’re always excited for a new book from Jodi and this one might be her most controversial one yet because if you think Shakespeare wrote his own plays, think again! This is a story of courage, ambition and desire that explores the ways in which two women, centuries apart, are both forced to hide behind another name to make their voices heard.  


Coming 20 August. 



The Life Impossible by Matt Haig

Fans of The Midnight Library get excited! This is another magical tale filled with heart and life lessons. When retired Maths teacher Grace Winters is left a run-down house on a Mediterranean island by a long-lost friend, curiosity gets the better of her. She arrives in Ibiza intending to sell the house and return to her life… but the island has other plans for Grace.

The Chilling by Riley James

Time to get your heart racing with this thriller set in the pressure-cooker environment of an Antarctic winter. Australian scientist Kit Bitterfeld is on her way to a coveted winter research position at Macpherson Station in Antarctica when they encounter a vessel on fire and with a lone survivor onboard who can't remember who he is or what has happened. What results is a compelling, twisty thriller you won’t be able to put down.

Intermezzo by Sally Rooney

One of the most anticipated releases of the year is the new book from Sally Rooney, the bestselling Irish author of Normal People, Conversations with Friends, and Beautiful World, Where Are You? Her new novel is an exquisitely moving story about grief, love and family.

Things Will Calm Down Soon by Zoe Foster Blake

Welcome back to the world of fiction Zoë Foster Blake! Her first novel in 10 years plunges us into the world of Kit, a talented hair stylist turned entrepreneur juggling family dramas, workplace near-catastrophes and relationship crises. Part entertainment, part founder insight, this is an entirely new breed of illuminating storytelling that you won't be able to put down.

The Valley by Chris Hammer

Another favourite returning this year is bestselling crime writer Chris Hammer. Nell Buchanan and Ivan Lucic are back – as Nell is thrown into her most emotionally fraught investigation. A controversial entrepreneur is murdered in a remote mountain valley but when Nell discovers the victim is a close blood relative, the past begins to take on a looming significance.

Rapture by Emily Macguire

This is the book every book club will be discussing this year! In The Waiting, LAPD Detective Renée Ballard finds herself tracking a terrifying serial rapist while also defending her career, with the help of the newest volunteer to the Open-Unsolved Unit: Patrol Officer Maddie Bosch, Harry's daughter. One of the best crime books of the year, put this right at the top of your list.

Murdle Australia by G.T. Karber

If you haven’t jumped onto the super fun and brilliant mind-bendy Murdle trend, are you even a puzzler? If you’re already a fan you’re in for a treat as Deductive Logico returns to Australia taking us back to his postgraduate studies at the University of Deduction in Australia with 50 new mysteries that challenge you to find whodunit, where and why! And if you’re not a Murdle fan, what are you waiting for?

Leave the Girls Behind by Jacqueline Bublitz

Fans of Before You Knew My Name rejoice! Jacqueline Bublitz is back with another taut suspense thriller overlaid with a moving exploration of the ways in which violent crime ricochets through the lives of those left behind.
